Buying generic groceries and other products can add up to some major savings. As the economy continues to worse we are looking for more and more ways to save money. For most of us coupon clipping isn’t as easy as it may sound. Many families including mine clip and keep the coupons but usually forget to take them to the store and actually use them. Others may clip coupons for items they normally don’t use which may be more expensive than the normal brand. So how can you still save some money at the grocery store? Buy generic foods and other products!
Most people think buying generic foods will only save a few pennies here and there. However
think of it like this and you may change your opinion about generic brands. Let’s say you buy everything generic at the grocery store instead of the name brand product. A can a green beans may cost $0.60 for the name brand and $0.35 for the generic brand. The name brand bread may sell for $1.50 while the store brand bread may sell for $1.00. With these two products you saved $0.75 or and average of $0.375 per product. Now think about how many products you purchase on a weekly visit to the grocery store. Let’s be modest and say you buy 35 items. This means you would trim over $13 per week off your grocery bill or over $50 per month!!!
Many of you may think generic food brands taste bad and the quality of the foods are much lower than the name brand. However, what most people don’t realize is that many of the store brand products are actually name brand products in disguise! Name brand companies compete for the lowest bid to get the store brand label. This is not true for every generic product but you may be surprised that many of the generic products are actually the products you already use.
Next time you are at the grocery store shop around for the best deals. Try different generic products out each time you visit the store to find the best ones. Do a little research on the different brand names to see if they actually manufacture generic brands under a different label. You may be able to save some money at the store without changing the quality of your food!
