Many times my little girl makes me stop and think about the simple things in life. I know many people are tired of hearing those cliches, but I’m going to tell you about my experience today.
After filling up my car today with close to $50 worth of gas, yes I splurged and gave my Camry a treat of mid-grade gasoline today, I saw a new shiny penny laying on the ground just a couple steps ahead of my car. Normally I would have just got in the car, shut the door and drove home because it wouldn’t be worth my time to make the two extra steps and bend over to pick up the penny. Today however, I had an idea.
My three year old has a piggy bank which she is saving her money for, well not sure exactly what yet. We have been telling her a car but as I have mentioned earlier in my blog my wife and I think her first car when she turns 16 and she thinks one of those pink Barbie cars that she can drive herself now. I guess we will see who wins the battle in a few years. Anyway, I took the extra steps to pick up the penny and handed it to my daughter. You would have thought I gave her the world. She said “Money, I can put this in my piggy bank!”
Don’t you wish we were all like my three year old? Wouldn’t it be nice to find a penny on the ground and realize it’s actually worth something. You couldn’t wait to get to the bank and put your penny in savings so it can start collecting interest. To add one final cliche to this article, “A penny saved is a penny earned.” Remember this next time you see a penny on the ground!
